These are cities where good governance practices are used with the right kind of technology to provide ideal living solutions to the people. Typically, such cities are associated with an inherent wealth, prestige and the presence of high-tech industries. To transform urban environments, for a start, cities must combine the physical asset development with smart planning. The planning cycles will be shorter if investments are flexible and riven by data. Seoul is one city that has made good use of its solutions after thorough analysis of data crunched. An open approach needs to be inculcated to attract the participation of private sector companies. Amsterdam makes perfect use of a private-public partnership to execute its plans. Most people at some point or the other have been saddled with a bad boss. But not all bad bosses are the worst of the kind. There exist three kinds of really bad bosses. To start with, there are the indecisive bosses, who cannot take any decision squarely. One mustn’t wait for such people to make a decision, but instead define the matter beforehand. The first step has to be forced in by the subordinate. One must try to build a sense of trust nonetheless. Conversations need to be started for this. The second type is the insecure manager. Due to their own insecurities they end up being poor at talent management. To tackle such, one must try to understand the root cause behind their fall. One must be transparent with them and still appreciate the positives around. The all-knowing leader is often the most infuriating to work with. To manage them, one needs to let the bosses discover ideas in you. They tend to have surplus of energy, so this needs to be channeled in the right manner. At times when this kind of boss behaves too megalomaniac, he/she needs to be given a dose of reality check.

Due to the onslaught of automation several jobs face the threat of being left redundant. But certain skills are in no hurry to be automated, so are the ones that today’s youngsters must lap up. One obvious one is communication. While there are robots that can now process voice, none would be able to deliver soul-stirring speeches like real people. Content is something which robots may possess but processing them to make meaningful information out of is still a human domain. While enormous quantities of data warehousing is now possible even in the smallest of chips, without understanding the right context such data can never be properly utilized. Robots may be able to perform routine activities but will never possess the kind of emotional competence truly required. Online resources are now available to impart lessons but the real teaching or the related field of management training will still be performed by people. Otherwise the emotional connect so needed can never be truly established. Human beings are also experts at networking by finding the right connections. And finally, we come to ethics, which again robots cannot also distinguish between the good and bad.

Complex ideas often get very difficult to explain during management training sessions. Certain steps have been identified to make this an easier process. For a start, a diagram can help. Any concept can best be explained through the right use of the trainer’s stance. Examples of stance may be squared, open or closed with further sub-styles. Next up, one may deconstruct the entire process to make the sub-parts more palatable. One must use analogies, similes and metaphors to draw comparisons. Images may be shown to explain the concept in detail. Some trainers use the unconventional method of explaining the concept from the back. This is akin to reverse engineering, enabling the learner to appreciate the process, not just the final result. Finally, all these concepts must be grouped together to make the audience understand how they may be used in a cohesive form.
