CSR is a complicated topic. Many have condemned it for its ‘greenwashing’ tendencies, having affected the company bottom lines. Others have argued on how it has had a positive impact on the profitability. Eighty- six percent of companies listed on the S&P 500 list in 2018 had released their CSR reports, while the number stood at a mere fifth of the total back in 2011. Multinationals though find CSR tricky, leading to trade- offs in the process. Many of them end up cutting corners to meet basic goals. Compliance also gets hits in this process. Specific talent recruitment must be done to hire managers who are motivated in ensuring this CSR compliance. There exist coordination challenges too to this.
