Recruitment and Selection Procedures
“Right kind of people is required, at the right time, for the right job that suits one’s capabilities and skills”. As the above abstract says that having right kind of people one should select the best out of all and this could only happen through proper recruitment and selection procedure.
The purpose of the project report is to ensure an adequate and relevant staffing profile through the recruitment and selection of suitable labour to meet the company’s human resource requirements as staff is its most precious resource.
Thus, Human Resource Development is becoming the backbone of every organization, not only for recruiting employees, but retaining them as well. The objective of Human Resource is to maximize the return on investment from organization’s human capital. In order to perform the above tasks, the HR managers need to be extremely innovative yet humane in preparing their strategies. This is a cruel world and whosoever is good with human psychology, climbs the ladder of success.
Keeping the above background in perspective, my project relates to understanding satisfaction level at Pantaloons in respect to recruitment and selection process.
Finding of the project:
• In case of different types of methods of recruitment i.e. external and internal sources employees are satisfied with it as employees and company both prefer external sourcing i.e. advertisement.
• Each and every employee holding their respective positions/ jobs are satisfied with it which states the evaluation of the recruitment and selection procedure of the company is very effective and efficient.
• Changes in Pantaloon’s policy, procedure and programmes are very well communicated with the employees and employees are very much satisfied by it which states that it should be continued at present.
• The employees of Pantaloons are very much satisfied by the companies’ recruitment and selection process as they differ from other companies’ recruitment and selection process due to its transparency, unbiased ness, and uniformity and based on merit.
• The company work systematic and time based management is done and at each step proper information is provided to perform it perfectly. They select those applicants who are best suited for the job they are appointed for.
Recommendations:
• Recruitment is an important activity. For the improvement of the procedure, the cycle time of recruitment should be reduced. It should not be more than 90 days.
• All Recruitment should be preceded by written test.
• Pantaloon mostly uses external source of recruitment for the vacancy of the POST; it should go for internal recruitment primarily so that it would decrease the cycle time of recruitment.
• Employees’ referral system may be used as one of the source of Recruitment in order to develop a commitment and belongingness among employees.
Objective of the Study:

The project is based on:
• Effectiveness - producing enough suitable candidates and distinguishing accurately between both the suitable and unsuitable.
• Efficiency - using most cost-effective advertising, recruitment sources and methods.
• Fairness - maintaining the company’s good name with existing employees and potential recruits alike, by dealing fairly, honestly and courteously with all applicants.
Scope:
• This policy and procedure encompass all activities that form part of the recruitment and selection process. It is applicable to all staff recruitment irrespective of staff group or nature of employment. In order for the policy and procedure to be effective it is essential that any employee who is involved in any aspect of the recruitment and/or selection of staff is aware about the procedures/ policies of the company thoroughly so that he/she could apply on others.
Conclusion
• The purpose of this research is to understand the satisfaction level and the effectiveness of Pantaloon employees in relation to recruitment and selection procedure of Pantaloon. In this survey I came to know that most of the Pantaloon employees are satisfied with the overall recruitment and selection process. I found that Pantaloon recruitment policy is good and still a lot to be done to make it perfect and make it more effective and efficient.
• Also, they follow fair practices and are fair to all which leads to motivation of employees and they in turn give their best to complete the tasks or activities assigned.
Limitations:
1. The survey only includes a sample of employees of Pantaloon not the whole employees of the company because of which the result of the survey can be false.
2. The whole survey is based on hypothesis that the employees who give information through questionnaire will provide honest and information without being biased.
3. The survey does not provide the complete information about the satisfaction level of employees i.e. some does not give their name false, some give their grade/ designation wrong etc. at the time of verification the information does not came into handy.
4. The data collected through survey cannot be used for long period of time as these types of data gets changes every time.
