Live Project with The National Council of Applied Economic Research NCAER:

Location: New Delhi Airport6

Date: 2nd to 9th Feb, 2012

The second semester MBA students headed for their first internship, which was a 7 day project with NCAER in collaboration with the construction giant – GMR. The project was a survey on the “economic impact of Delhi airport on India” which required gathering of details regarding the economic background of the passengers travelling through air and their suggestions on the further improvement of the airport premises.

The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) was established in 1956 as a registered society. As a premier applied economics research institute in the country NCAER is committed to enhance public awareness of policy issues in business and economics and to facilitate solutions that will contribute to overall national development. By publishing the findings of its research, and through the active participation of its senior staff in media and policy, it aims to bring new knowledge to attention of policy makers.

NCAER has an interdisciplinary team of researchers capable of generating large scale primary data and independent analyses at national, state, sectoral, industry and firm levels. The chief executive of the Council is its Director-General and its members include state governments, public sector corporations, corporate houses and other associations and institutions. The Governing Body is elected by the Members and includes prominent persons from government, industry and academia.

A set of 31 students were given a target of 50 questionnaires each to be filled by the passengers flying through varied airlines , airline authorities , retailers in the airport premises and cargo officials. The questionnaire consisted of the questions relating to the economic status of the passengers and their views on the maintenance and development of the airport premises. It was a 7 day live project where the students experienced the real work environment and the pressure and stress relating to reaching on time and achieving the target. The students got to learn alot from this project, gained a lot of confidence , perseverance and learned the art of patience and punctuality.

Dr. Parida the head of the NCAER project guided us all through the survey. He explained the need of the survey and the way it is to be conducted. The staffs from GMR were also very cooperative and made the entire process smooth and hassle free.

Eventually keeping up with our name, the skylineites successfully completed the project and the taste of success was as sweet as the chocolates we had to celebrate our first pay cheque. All in all the project proved to be a revolution which changed our lives for good.
